External measurement of regional cerebral blood flow in man by common carotid arterial injection of radioactive krypton-85 saline solution.

چکیده
1) External recording of cerebral clearance was performed after Kr85 saline solution injection into the common carotid artery. Clearance curve thus obtained was divided into 3 exponentials. The 3rd phase represents mainly clearance of the area perfused with external carotid artery and the rest of the curve after subtraction of the 3rd phase can be treated in the similar way to that of reported by Lassen et al. 2) The method was applied on the 43 cases. Cerebral blood flow was decreased in cases with cerebrovascular diseases. This is proved to be the result of decrease of both blood flow and relative weight of grey matter. Blood flow of slow phase (representing white matter) is insignificantly decreased. Whereas blood flow of grey and white matter shows increase during 4% carbon dioxide inhalation. 3) Advantage of this simplified method was discussed.

Presentation of a Non-invasive Method of Estimating Arterial Stiffness by Modeling Blood Flow and Arterial Wall Based on the Determination of Elastic Module of Arterial Wall
Introduction: Arterial stiffness is an important predictor of cardiovascular risk. Several indices have been introduced to estimate the arterial stiffness based on the changes in the brachial blood pressure. Since the substitution of the blood pressure changes in the central arteries such as carotid with the blood pressure changes in the brachial results in error in the blood...

• The Kety-Schmidt method for measurement of regional blood flow was first applied to the heart by Eckenhoff et al. These investigators employed coronary sinus catheterization to measure myocardial blood flow with nitrous oxide. The use of a radioactive gas and an external detector for the measurement of organ blood flow was investigated by Conn, Lewis et al., and Lassen et al. The radioactive ...
متن کاملA Method for the Continuous Measurement of Cerebral Blood Flow in Man by Means of Radioactive Krypton
The measurement of cerebral blood flow by means of the nitrous oxide method of Kety and Schmidt (1) or the krypton-85 (Kr85) technique of Lassen and Munck (2) requires a steady state of at least ten minutes, for it is not until the end of such a period that the uptake of the gas by the brain can be estimated indirectly from its concentration in cerebral venous blood. These methods are, therefor...

IN 1949 Kety proposed that if the rate of removal from the site of injection of an intramuscularly injected radioactive isotope was limited principally by flow, then the clearance of the tracer from the injection site could be used to measure local blood flow.' In the past, sodium-24 or iodine-131 has been used for this purpose, but with considerable variability in the results obtained in seria...

Background & Objective : Several indices have been introduced to estimate arterial stiffness that based on changes in brachial blood pressure. But because of the error resulted by the substitution of brachial blood pressure instead of the other central arteries, such as carotid, it will be very important to present elastic parameter based on the mechanical models without any emphasis on brach...
